The Vienna State Opera not only fascinates millions of tourists with its breathtaking architecture and the annual Opera Ball, but is also a constant attraction for locals.

As one of the most remarkable opera houses in Europe and one of the most important landmarks of the city of Vienna, it enjoys a worldwide reputation. Waagner-Biro Stage Systems has maintained a close relationship and outstanding cooperation with this renowned house for decades.

Following its destruction in the Second World War, the magnificent building on Vienna's Ringstrasse was rebuilt from 1952 to 1955 with the involvement of Waagner-Biro Stage Systems. Between 1992 and 1996, the company equipped the State Opera with completely new drive technology, followed by the installation of a C⋅A⋅T control system.

In 2007, the lower machinery was fundamentally modernized, and one year later the upper machinery was also modernized.

Waagner-Biro Stage Systems has equipped the Vienna State Opera with over 53 proscenium hoists that move the scenery precisely and efficiently. The 24 built-in point hoists ensure versatile and flexible use of the stage. The 6 main platforms with an enormous size of 18 meters ensure a stable and safe platform for the performers and the stage equipment. The 22-metre built-in transport podium ensures the smooth transport of props and stage elements during performances.

Every year, Waagner-Biro Stage Systems proves its installation skills anew, especially during the world-famous Vienna Opera Ball. The company transforms the State Opera into one of the most magnificent ballrooms in the world in the shortest possible time. Dozens of additional boxes are installed in the stage area within a few hours to create sufficient space.
