Facts and Figures
One outstanding innovation was the circular horizon, which can be raised up to five meters to allow access to the generous stage area of 2,500 m². The "Pinion Drive" stage wagon system revolutionized movement on the stage, as it moves in a completely guide-free longitudinal and transverse direction and the drive units are embedded in the floor.
Type of venue
The Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen impresses not only with its striking roof, but also with its modern stage technology.
Waagner-Biro played a key role in this rare new building project in Europe. In addition to designing the steel and glass façade, the company was also commissioned to install the entire stage technology.

The "Pinion Drive" stage wagon system revolutionized movement on the stage, as it moves in a completely guide-free longitudinal and transverse direction and the drive units are embedded in the floor.
In addition to the drive units, 4 double-deck platforms, 4 trap lifts and 30 compensating podiums were installed for a flexible stage design. For the transportation of requisites and stage elements, 15 stage wagons and a turntable wagon are available.
In summer 2018, the stage technology at Copenhagen Opera House was brought up to date when Waagner-Biro Stage Systems upgraded the control system to C⋅A⋅T V5. This included a total of 116 Pinion drive units for the precise movement of the stage wagons and platforms.
These impressive technical specifications are testament to the innovative and advanced stage technology that contributes to Copenhagen Opera being one of the leading opera houses in Europe.
