Facts and Figures
The main stage consists of five 14 × 14 m double floor platforms with ±3.5 m lift and 470 kN total dynamic load. Three platforms feature table traps. Four compensating platforms are installed in the side and rear stages. The rear stage transport platform measures 14 × 15 m and supports up to 1,050 kN static load. It serves the 12.5 m revolving wagon and ballet wagon. Two orchestra platforms with seat wagons are integrated in the forestage. The fly system includes 45 electric, 27 manual winches and 12 point hoists.
Type of venue

In 2002, Waagner-Biro Stage Systems was contracted to carry out the complete refurbishment of the stage equipment at the Grand Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg.
The theatre, one of the country’s most important cultural venues, was equipped with state-of-the-art technology to meet the requirements of a modern and flexible performance space.
The centrepiece of the stage machinery is a main stage comprising five double floor lifting platforms, each measuring 14 × 14 metres, with a lift of ±3.5 metres and a total dynamic useful load of 470 kN. Three of these platforms are fitted with table traps measuring 1 × 9 metres. Four compensating platforms were also installed in the side and rear stages to allow for lowering of stage wagons. At the rear stage, a large transport platform (14 × 15 metres) supports a dynamic load of 210 kN (static 1,050 kN). It serves as a parking area for both the self-propelled cylindrical revolving wagon (Ø 12.5 m) and the ballet wagon. Two orchestra platforms with integrated seat wagons were installed in the forestage area.
The upper stage machinery includes a combination of 45 electric and 27 manual counterweight winches as well as a point hoist system with 12 winches. Two smoke vents are integrated into the portal bridges. The entire system is operated via a main control console, two mobile consoles and a wireless console featuring a dynamic touchscreen.
In 2017, the Grand Théâtre opted to upgrade its control system. Once again, Waagner-Biro Stage Systems was selected as the trusted partner. The upgrade was successfully carried out during the summer breaks of 2017 and 2018, in two implementation phases.
